  • 2009/10 CSS Committee Candidates' Manifestos
    VICE PRESIDENT

    Ray AuYeung

Hello, dear all, I am Ray , a Maths student and one of the candidates for vice-president . I am sure that I can undertake the post with confidence.

First of all, vice-president will be the main assistant to the president of the Chinese society. Not only does a vice-president need to organise events, but also have to help each position of committee.

Working closely with other committee and making manor decision are the two important roles for the vice-president. Together with committee, we will build up the good image of Chinese society to attract more people within different nationality to join and promote Chinese culture.

As member of the Chinese society football team, I Am familiar with motivating our freshers team for the training sessions. Having worked with a group of  people it was a beneficial experience in improving my communication skills, teamwork and leadership. Also, because of  this , I can assist the sports officer in organising football match.

During this summer holiday, I took-up a part-time job in Freshness burger which is a kind of fast food shop. In the kitchen, I learn how to lead and co-ordinate a group of people because of being a caller. I believe this kind of skill can be adapted in the committee. Since, Maths help me to develop my problem solving ability and  logical thinking. There qualities will enable me to contribute to work of the committee and most important, Chinese society.

Futhermore, self-motivation and responsibility are two of the important elements to be a vice-president. Your own motivation can influence another person once you concentrate in a work so much. I always use this approach to motivate the Freshers football team. As being a scout before and  took a range of responsibilities. I understand that there will be a heavy responsibility for both the president  and the vice-president. Trust me, I can handle this.

Willing to listen is the main point  that  I will focus on. Many inspirations or views can be obtained from different media. They are valuable materials for us to run the society well. In particular taking care of Freshers, because this would be the first time they come into university and may not be adaptable to the new environment of studying. Through MSN, Xanga, E-mail and, of course, face-book are good ways to collect members’ opinions and answer their questions. I know many people enjoy clubbing, but we should also organise some non-clubbing  activities. To work with Chinaren is one my plan as well. Such as organising some joint activities. Establishing some hobby groups for our members such as – bowling, Winning, Music groups could also be an idea…….Of course I won’t forget our traditional events, O camp, Christmas ball and V.show.
More concentrate on our primary aims, promoting Chinese culture and providing edge for people to meet from different events.

If you ask me why I am interested to be a vice-president? It is not because I could use it as a reference in my CV….. but it  is because I enjoy organising events and I would like to take the challenge. I like the sense of satisfaction after each successful activity. It would be a good experience…….University is the last stage of our student life . You will step into another  phase of your life after graduation. So I tell myself” I should do something.” What I want to emphasis is to  have a remarkable memory and experiences as university student. For me this is important, once you have missed the time, you can not experience it again. I run for this election because I hope have a chance to leave precious memories to all of our members and let members look forward to the upcoming activities after each event.

I count on your support, please, vote me and good luck to other candidates, thank you.

    Running for Vice President

Like many others, it was the very first time to pursue my study in Bath. Thanks to the society, I can actively enjoy various activities such as the Christmas Ball, Variety Show and Southampton Games etc. For us, the society has an important role to gather different people who want to promote Chinese culture in the University and the community. It also provides me with a platform to socialise and thus I was able to rapidly adopt to a foreign environment. It is obvious to see the effort put in by the current committees and I would like to make a contribution to the society not only as a member, but also as a Vice President to serve all members.

I am an enthusiastic, responsible and highly motivated person and I can work independently as well as in a team. I like sports to enjoy good health and take challenges. Skydiving is a challenging sports that attracts me. There I learnt to give trust to instructors, pilots and myself. Moreover I learnt the importance of observation, good planning and feedbacks are.

My experience gained throughout the past few years has developed me into a person that has all the qualities needed to become the Vice-President.

    1. I learned all the essential skills, such as communication within committees, teamwork and division of labour, for running a society when I was serve as a Secretary of Hong Kong Polytechnic University Music Society. The fruitful experiences of holding a 200 students Orientation-camp, singing contest and band show and all other activities were unforgettable.
    2. I learnt how to control budgets, financial skills and finding sponsors when I was the Treasurer of the Student Union for my High School.
    3. I learnt bargaining skills, marketing strategies and how to deal with customers when I was a Senior Customer Service Assistant in Giordano.
    4. For my own interest I  bid on a booth for Chinese New Year Market in Victoria Park in 2007 and me and my team had a  successful experience and the feeling was most memorable as a person-in-charge.
    5. As an engineering student, my knowledge of technology and computers is well trained so I can put these to good use to further the Society.

I believed my all-rounded skilled in all aspects make me as an excellent candidate to take the role as your Vice President, and to assist and share the work of President, and support all other committee members to improve the working efficiency. If I am Elected, apart from these aspects, I aim to enhance the atmosphere and create harmonic within the society, by providing full support for all members, showing the importance of member's feedback, look for improvement and the most important thing is keep close interactions with student union, ChinaRen and other societies.

For tradition, the Orientation Camp, Christmas Ball and Variety will go on. Other from these events I proposed a culture night on Chinese Lunar New Year to promote Chinese culture to all members in the society.

With my passion, determination and experience in organisation I am sure that I am the right choice to be your Vice-President.
