2009/10 CSS Committee Candidates' Manifestos
TREASURER
Carrie Wong
Candidate Name: Carrie Wong GN
Position: Treasurer
Course: BSc Economics, first year
I am an outgoing and friendly person who works well and I am easy to work with. I understand that coordination between members is the key to success. My personality will ensure a well-coordinated, efficient and harmonized committee which brings all our members joy and wonderful times and most importantly to promote Chinese culture, which is the main objective of the CSS. I am also highly motivated to be one of the committee members to serve you all.
Skills
- Mathematics and Accounting Skills are important for being a treasurer and I am sure that I am a good mathematician and I worked in an accountancy firm for 2 months which familiarizes me with accounting skills.
- Apart from counting and balancing, treasurer should be good at using limited money to maximize the benefit of the society. And maximizing benefit is what we learn in Economics. Therefore, there is no doubt that I am the one you are looking for to maximize benefit for all our dear members.
Experiences
- work experiences in hotel, shops and personnel agencies enhanced my communication and social skills. I am good at responding to people’s needs and work in an organized manner, this is vital when working with my members.
- I was the president of a worldwide student circle, and my work was to organize conferences and activities for members, help out in the summer camps as a camp coordinator every summer and of course managing the money of committee. This is an extraordinary experience which makes me an exceptionally well-organized person and this marked a solid foundation for what I will offer to the CSS in the future.
Objectives
I would like to introduce new source of income for the committee, not only the conventional member fees and sponsors but also from students outside the society.
- To regularly hold theme parties in the plug bar. We can sell tickets to students who are in or even out of the society. This could promote the CSS and most importantly, to raise fund for the running of our society.
This can loosen our financial constraint and provide better quality events to our members in the future, maybe to finance our variety show.
My urge to involve and capability is your reason to vote for me! The only thing I need now is your support! So, vote for me, Carrie Wong, for the post of treasurer. Thank you!
Ian Yau
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am Ian Yau the first year student of accounting and finance. I am honored to have been nominated as the treasurer for the Chinese students’ society and to be able to have a chance to stand here to present my aspirations for this post.
Without a doubt, the treasurer plays an important role in the society. Its jobs include raising money through the membership fees, to keep the money safe, prepare the cash flow and the financial statements. The decisions on how to use the money efficiently and effectively, to set the budget for every event and control the cost are also the responsibilities of the treasurer. All the events we hold base on how much we have. Without sufficient funds, we are certainly unable to do anything. Therefore, to use the fund wisely will be the one of the main principles of the treasurer.
The reasons why I would love to take part in this challenging job is that it will be a great experience for me. Although I always prepare the budget and cost control for my living expenses every month, it is not as exciting and challenging as controlling the financial position of a society. I am willing to share the workload of the other members when I am free and this shows my team work and team spirit. In addition, the job nature of the treasurer is relevant to my course which is accounting and finance. I believe that it is the greatest chance to apply what I have learnt.
My personality also shows that I am suitable for this position as I am a careful and cautious person. This is essential for managing money, especially for large organization such as the Chinese students’ society. I have got an in depth knowledge in accounting as I studied this subject for more than five years. I also have various experiences as I was a trainee on both certified public accountants company and in the controllers’ department of Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel. These experiences enhanced my skills in financial control and I have become more mature when facing new challenges. Apart from being in the role of the treasurer, my personalities can also help with analysing and solving the problems.
Based on my knowledge and experiences, I believe that I have the ability and confidence to become a treasurer. However, I cannot do anything without your support, and therefore, vote for me! It will definitely be an honor to become a part of the committee. Thank you very much!
