    SPORTS SECRETARY

    Chris Cheung

Hello everyone, I am Chris Cheung, a first year economic student. Tonight I would like to introduce myself to all of you and tell you why you should vote for me to be your Sports Secretary.

As a Sports Secretary, the most important things are to organize sporting events and to promote sports for different levels of people in the university. My enthusiasm for sports led me to set up a Bath Freshers Basketball Team this year. My main responsibility was to book the courts for every training session and to inform people to come. I also helped with setting up the rules and to invite other university teams to join the basketball Friendly competition for this coming Saturday. This enhances my organization skills as well as my ability to motivate others to participate in physical activities. Other than basketball, I am also part of the freshers football team. If I am the Sports Secretary, I will take a more active role in football and badminton as well as Basketball.

On the other hand, I am an approachable person and willing to listen to others. These skills enable me to meet more kinds of people and link up different members to join in our society events. In addition, I have been involved in sport since primary school and have became a player for South China Athletic Association(南華) volleyball team in Hong Kong. So surely and undoubtedly I can provide my own advice and experience in sport for those who require it when they need me.

For the future, I am going to set up a forum on facebook, which will let members give advice on our different events. Also, if there were any members who do not have enough people to play with or who would like me to book a court for them, they can also write on the forum to let me know. However, they should inform earlier and leave sometime for me to organize.

On the football side, I will try to invite more universities to come and have friendly competitions, such as a five on five indoor football match. There will be a Bath basketball game for the future and this will include a three on three challenge game. Apart from these, I wish to organize two special games, one for freshers and upper years and the other between Chinese Student Society and Chinaren. I will set up a Badminton team as I know that Badminton is a popular sport within our society. Both boys and girls will be able to participate as I know that there are girls who want to play Badminton but do not have any way to get involved. Training sessions will be crucial in order to contest in the competitions. I plan to set up training sessions for each sport at least once every two weeks.

Last but not least, sports secretary is not a job just for sports events, but also helping other committees in organizing different events such as Christmas Ball or the Freshers Party. To work in an eight people group, team spirit is the most important thing. If other group members come to difficulties, I will be happy to assist them and to support the president in order to let the society run smoothly. I hope that I am the one who will be able to take the challenge as the next Sports Secretary. Thank you all for listening.
